Whether a family pet, working dog or agility star, the Miniature American Shepherd is an intelligent, loving and loyal companion. — Females are typically 13 and 17 inches at the shoulder and males range from 14 to 18 inches. Despite their smaller size, Minis are still an excellent herding dog. They display energetic, inquisitive and intelligent natures, while being hardy and extremely alert. They have exquisite colours and patterns within the breeds colour palate. Black, blue merle, red, and red merle. Gorgeous blacks, greys, tans and brown spots can be speckled and marbled through their coats. They have a natural aptitude in agility, obedience and also tracking.

Riarma Stud has a 'legacy of excellence' in breeding in New Zealand. Beginning many years ago with Riarma Quarter Horses; importing and breeding some of the best bloodlines from the USA, Australia and New Zealand. Over the years Riarma Quarter Horses have had a huge presence in Western Pleasure and Competition Riding throughout New Zealand and their horses have amassed huge success over the years. While Lyn is no longer riding herself full-time, Kerry and Lyn are still breeding a handful of youngstock each year from selected mares. Riarma Stud has also diversified and started a small Miniature Hereford Breeding program at her property in Onawe, Akaroa. This was a particular passion of Kerry's and the first Miniature Herefords were born in 2019.
The Miniature American Shepherd (Miniature Australian Shepherd) were a passion of Lyn's. Lyn had admired these dogs for many years when she was in the USA and when an opportunity arose to bring the bloodlines to New Zealand she jumped at the chance. Aptly named 'Wagon Tails' because the puppies will all have Tails.
It has been a long and very exciting journey finding genetically clear breeding stock, as they are all tested with Paw Prints USA to ensure there are no health abnormalities within their genetic profiles before embarking on their trip to Kerry and Lyn's property in NZ.
It has been an enormous undertaking with a huge amount involved importing these gorgeous dogs into New Zealand from USA.
Riarma Stud and WAGON TAILS look forward to breeding some beautiful puppies for lucky new owners in the future . However, there is a waiting list and of course, we will be very fussy about the homes our puppies go to.
