What is the waiting time on a puppy?
It would depend
where you are on the waiting list and current waiting times could be up to and around 6-12 months.
If there is a
bitch you are specifically wanting a puppy from, this could extend the wait time
further, as we only have limited litters from each of our
girls.
Can I choose a colour in advance?
We breed
puppies to be healthy and meet the breed standard as far as possible with knowledge of the
genetics of the parents. Depending on the parents, different coat colours
are more likely with given litters, but we don't breed for coat colour
specifically. Merles in particular have to be bred carefully to avoid major
genetic health issues.
How much is a
puppy?
Puppies are
$5500 and
once you are on our waiting list a $500 deposit is required to secure your
future puppy.
Wagon Tails has
invested well over $600,000 to import this breed to New Zealand from the
USA. The process to import these dogs and the extensive waiting times after
vaccines means they remain in paid boarding facilities for a further 4-6-10
months. Covid19 has extended some of the dogs arrival and further
increased the costs and time-frames.
Each Wagon
Tails Bitch
or Dog has also been screened by PAWPRINTS
GENETICS before being
purchased.
This process
ensures our dogs are cleared of
many of the hereditary genetic abnormalities in many dog breeds and also
significantly reduces the risks of purchasing a dog with any debilitating
health defects.
Very few
breeders use this service, however
Wagon Tails believes it is absolutely essential to maintain the highest
standards of animal welfare in breeding in New Zealand, while giving peace
of mind to families purchasing our puppies.
One further
reason, is
to ensure Wagon Tails puppies are in excellent homes. It was a long
held dream of Lyn and Kerry's to bring this breed to New Zealand and a
significant amount of hard work.
Wagon Tails are
committed to ensuring our puppies are well provided for. We ask that
people do their own research and when you contact us, it is because you are
ready to make the lifetime commitment to your puppy while appreciating the
high standards Lyn and Kerry have set for this breed in New Zealand.
Will a Miniature
American Shepherd fit my lifestyle?
Although
individual
puppies have their own personalities and temperament, miniature American
shepherds (mini Aussies) are an intelligent herding breed, so tend to like
to
chase things, and need plenty of mental stimulation. Although they're
smaller than other herders like border collies or Australian shepherds, they
usually like plenty of exercise, and need company, whether it's human or
canine. Although they're a smaller breed, and will happily share your sofa
(or bed) with you, the breed has its origins as working dogs, so if you
don't give them
something to do, they may create their own entertainment, which probably
won't be what you want. The good news is mini Aussies are just as cute and
cuddly grown up as puppies, so if you can give them what they need, they're
wonderful companions.
